Any history of The Wolfe Brothers that doesn't begin four generations ago isn't quite complete. The revered country duo, comprised of brothers Nick and Tom Wolfe, have become renowned over the past few years for their jaw-dropping live shows and steady ascent to Australian country music's upper echelon. Part of their rise has been due to talent, and a lot of it due to hard work. But the truth is that music is in The Wolfe Brothers' blood. "We come from four generations of farmers and musicians," Nick explains. Their father, the man who encouraged them to start playing and helped facilitate their first shows in their early teens, was a rock drummer. His father played saxophone, touring around the brothers' home state of Tasmania with a family band. And his father — Nick and Tom's great-grandfather — was a fiddle player. 

​If the musical gene was already in Nick and Tom's DNA, it was their parents who brought it to full bloom. Their father guided Nick to the guitar and Tom to the piano, perhaps with "the intention of starting a band with us," as Tom says. And their mother filled the family home with music, exposing her children to 90s country staples like Garth Brooks and Billy Ray Cyrus. It was almost an inevitability that the Wolfe family home would produce two of Australia's finest country musicians.

The abundance of musical influences throughout the brothers' youth, combined with an innate musicality, have resulted in the development of a unique yet embracingly familiar sound embedded in nostalgia yet curious and innovative. If their first three albums were steps towards the rarefied space The Wolfe Brothers occupy now, it was 2018's Country Heart that gave them the final push. "Country Heart was the first time we've talked about our lives," Tom says of their 2018 triumph. A heartfelt and occasionally melancholic portrait of a tumultuous period in Nick and Tom's lives, Country Heart found The Wolfe Brothers pushing themselves emotionally and musically more than they ever had. "That album has given us so much confidence to go into the next one," he says. "We pushed ourselves last time, and now we're wondering, where can we go this time?"

The answer to that question is "Kids on Cassette" the most conceptually and musically bold record The Wolfe Brothers have ever put to tape. A joyful fusion of country, rock, and pop, "Kids on Cassette" like Country Heart, is a portrait of where the brothers are at this point in time — only this time, it shows them going full speed ahead, pushing forward with no cares in the world. "We're drawing from pub rock, from old country, from new country," Nick explains. "Maybe it's a bit confusing, but we do what we do and write what we love."​

"Kids on Cassette" also works as an accurate metaphor for where The Wolfe Brothers are in their career. "This represents the last few years of our journey," Tom says. It also represents where he and his brother want to go. "It's been quite a long time since there's been an Australian country act who's been a huge, huge crossover," adds Nick, signaling, in part, where he and Tom's ambitions lie. Humility is as baked into The Wolfe Brothers' DNA as music is, but it's clear that, at this point in their career, it's time for something bigger: radio crossover, stardom, the massive American market. Tom and Nick Wolfe will always remember where they came from, but "Kids on Cassette" feels like it could take them a step further. It may be far cry from their roots, but as Tom says: "We've never been the kind of band that stays in one lane.".

On July 30, 2021 after two years since her last original country release, Amber unveiled her brand new single ‘Bring It Back’ (Top 10 Radio & Chart), from her forthcoming 7th studio album to be released in 2022. ‘Bring It Back’ is an upbeat and powerful ode to the music industry, to both artists and fans, lamenting the loss of our pre-covid ways, with Amber musically imploring for life to soon go back to the way it was.

As Amber describes it, “When I wrote "Bring it Back" with Mel Dyer, I just knew it had to be the first single. ‘Bring it Back’ expresses exactly how I feel about our industry and life right now - reminiscing about the things we’ve lost, but hopeful about a brighter future. It’s such an upbeat track - and I hope people love hearing it as much as I love performing it!”

On April 23, 2020 in the middle of the COVID19 pandemic and lockdown, Amber and fellow award-winning artists and great friends, Aleyce Simmonds, Kirsty Lee Akers and Dianna Corcoran got together online to perform their version of the iconic alternative Australian anthem ‘True Blue’ (by John Williamson) in honour of not only frontline workers here and abroad for COVID and the recent devastating bushfires, but also an uplifting spirit building reminder to all Australian’s that ‘we will get through this’.  The video immediately received 65k views within 24 hours and a call for it to be released commercially by fans around the country, in addition to John Williamson’s advocacy.  On the 3 July 2020 the song and music video was officially released and has now received 1.5 Million Facebook Video views and won the Golden Guitar Award for ‘Vocal Collaboration of The Year’.

Keeping ever busy, in August 2020 Amber collaborated (wrote & recorded long-distance) with West Virginia’s The Davisson Bros on ‘Greatest Show on Earth’ which sat at the #1 position on the KIXFM Country Chart for 3 consecutive weeks.  And in September 2020 Amber released her first full length audio LIVE DVD and album ‘Amber Lawrence Live’, topping the DVD charts. 

Capping off a difficult year, Amber released her third children’s album ‘The Kids Gone Country 2” on 20 November 2020, an 18 track fun filled album for kids and the family, debuting at #2 on the iTunes Kids Chart (nestled amongst The Wiggles and Play School) and #2 on the Album Country Chart.

Not done with 2020, Amber performed at the Channel 7 Adelaide Carols and Sydney Carols in the Domain (ICC Theatre) and was in the only Australian female artist in the Top 5 Most Played Artists on the CMT (Country Music TV Channel) alongside Keith Urban, Luke Bryan, Travis Collins and Tim McGraw.

Amber’s most recent and 6th studio full-length album released in June 2019, was the chart-topper Spark! (#1 ARIA Country Album Chart & Top 20 ARIA All-Genre Album Chart), Spawning the hit singles ‘Outrageous’, ‘Heart’, ‘Hey’ and ‘Hell To Hallelujah’ the latter reaching #1 on the CMC Video chart on 17 April 2020.  In fact ‘Outrageous’ was the 2nd most played song at country radio in the second quarter of 2019 just behind Lee Kernaghan.

Amber’s music and writing style personifies everyday real-life events and emotions from love to heartache, joy to sadness, losing a loved one or being a parent, from up tempo energetic toe tappers to heartfelt ballads.

Adept at performing in any environment, Amber brings out the big gun band for Festivals, such as Deni Ute Muster, Gympie Muster, CMC Rocks, a smaller band for touring and in between, solo acoustic sets.

In 2017, upon request Amber penned, recorded ‘100 Year Handshake’ a song commemorating the 75th Anniversary Battle of the Coral Sea and the 100-year mate-ship and alliance between Australia and the USA.  Amber performed the song in New York in from of the President of the United States, Australian Prime Minister and notable governors and dignitaries.

ARIA Award, 8x Golden Guitar, AIR Award winning artist Fanny Lumsden released her third studio album, Fallow, on Cooking Vinyl Australia/Red Dirt Road Records, which recently took out Best Country Album at the 2020 ARIA Awards, and swept the field taking home five CMAA Golden Guitar Awards including Album of the year, Female artist of the year, Single of the year (Fierce), Video clip of the year and Alt Country Album of the year,  was shortlisted to the Australian Music Prize top 9 albums of 2020 and took out the Country Album of the Year at the AIR awards, as well as been nominated in overall album of the year -  not a bad feat after being released the week we all went into lockdown in Australia.  

Along with her husband Dan Stanley Freeman she runs her own Record Label and Production company – Red Dirt Road and hugely successful touring brand – The Country Halls Tour which has sold out over 180+ halls all over Australia, which is no small feat for a self-managed artist.  

The last 12 months did not slow Fanny down releasing fallow which debuted at #10 on the all genre ARIA charts, going to #1 on the Country ARIA charts for two weeks running,  appeared on Play School Showtime, ABC’s The Set with You Am I, was one of 12 Aussies in Global Music Match, became a Support Act Advocate,  a Volunteer firefighter, wrote and produced a documentary telling the story of Fallow through the summer of bushfires and recording her album in a stone hut and also managed to pull off a sold-out theatre tour across Australia in the wake of a pandemic here in Australia. Fanny was also named 2021 Albury Local Woman of the Year for the Hume Shire for her work with regional communities. 

Fanny is currently on the road with Paul Kelly and simultaneously putting on her 8th Country Halls Tour. In her own lane, Fanny is forging a career that is distinctively hers and changing up how ‘things are done’.

Loren Ryan is a First Nations Australian and comes from the Gamilaraay people native to Northwest, New South Wales. She is renowned for combining her love of music and language, showcasing both through a creatively captivating splendor. Writing original songs and translating well known Australian songs into her "ngamba dhalaay" mothers’ tongue – Gamilaraay.

Launching into the music scene at 18 years old, she has since been working as a full-time musician, building a fan base right across regional and metro NSW. Some people are just born with creativity and music running through them. Jake Davey is one of those people. Hailing from the Mid-North Coast of New South Wales, Jake Davey is one of Australia’s most adaptable young talents. Defying his humble nature, Davey can comfortably lay claim to the job titles singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer, videographer, and mixing engineer. A combination of abilities that many with an entire career under their belt struggle to lay claim to. But in 2021, it certainly pays to be flexible in the music industry.

Davey has a tireless work ethic, playing at up to 5 venues a week. His live shows are known for their signature combination of stomping, looping, and heartfelt melodies. He brings an energy and an audience connection that has helped him maintain monthly residencies at numerous venues, becoming one of the East Coast’s most recognizable performers. 

Despite a limited back catalog of original works, his talents have already seen him booked for major festivals including Savannah In The Round, Tamworth Country Music Festival, and Country at the Beach. The year 2020 saw Davey win the 'Travis Collins Scholarship' to attend the CMAA Academy in Tamworth. This experience saw him grow in leaps and bounds. Since attending, he has signed his first-ever publishing deal with Kobalt Music and collaborated with Golden guitar winner and mentor Kevin Bennett on a single called ‘Think of Me’. 

COVID-19 sadly put a stop to Davey’s travel plans, as he was booked to write and record in Nashville during the peak of the pandemic. Despite this unfortunate setback, he took the opportunity to write with artists far and wide. The prolific period of co-writing included artists from Canada, the United States, and Australia. It has left Davey with a top-shelf selection of tracks to release in 2022. He recently hit the studio to make a start on the first of those new singles, so watch this space!

Produced by Elijah Cavanagh of Cavanagh Films, the video for ‘SMALL TOWN’ was shot on the outskirts of Gatton in Queensland, to capture the simple pleasure of a country bonfire party. “The story line follows the journey of a young country guy who was working in the city returning to his roots”, explains Johnston. “We threw a big party with a bunch of friends and just captured the magic.”

Johnston’s writing is unique and familiar all at once, with a modern unique sound. On the writing of the song, Johnston says: “I wrote ‘Small Town’ on the drive back home to my hometown of Wingham. I had been spending quite some time in the city and I was just so excited to get back to my family farm.

I wanted to capture that feeling of excitement and anticipation in the song - that build up as I was on that drive to get back home.”

Produced by Justin Wantz in Nashville, ‘SMALL TOWN’ follows on from ‘RAISED LIKE THAT’, a debut single that has seen Johnston garner extensive national airplay leading to a #1 hit single on TMN CountryTown Hot 50 airplay charts. With over 5 million streams, ‘RAISED LIKE THAT’ is now regarded as the fastest streamed single by an Australian Country artist ever.

Johnston’s recent activity on the live circuit has seen him play to huge crowds garnering stand out reviews. Brad earned wide scale recognition in 2018 with his self-titled debut album that yielded the singles, ‘Red Light,’ ‘Too Drunk to Drive’ and ‘Lake House,' as well as the anthemic crowd favourite ‘Water On The Ground’ which has notched up over 550,000 Facebook views and growing (watch here). The album earned the Jindabyne native two Golden Guitar nominations for Contemporary Album of the Year and New Talent of the Year. Cox also won the 39th Toyota Star Maker award and became the name on country music lovers lips around the country.

Since taking out the Toyota Star Maker title in 2018, Brad Cox has worked quickly to make a name for himself in the Australian country music scene. He has opened shows for Brett Eldredge, Jon Pardi, Randy Houser, Adam Eckersley and Brooke McClymont.

Looking back, if 2018 was the year of the long march for the young man from Jindabyne, then 2019 is the year of the great leap forward. Lee Kernaghan is Australia’s most loved country music identity and an outback icon. He reinvigorated Australian Country Music in the 1990’s, synthesising traditional country themes with his own brand of rural rock and images of an evolving regional culture.

Songs like The Outback Club, Boys From The Bush, Hat Town, She’s My Ute and Australian Boy are now modern day anthems for a generation of Australian’s living and working on the land.

On its release the album struck a chord with the Australian people holding the number 1 position on the Australian ARIA Album Chart for four consecutive weeks and was the highest selling album by an Australian artist (all genres) for 2015.

Lee has sold over two million albums in Australia with releases including Outback Club, Three Chain Road,, 1959, Hat Town, Rules Of The Road, Electric Rodeo, New Bush, Ultimate Hits, Spirit Of The Bush, Planet Country, Beautiful Noise, Spirit Of The Anzacs, all achieving gold, platinum or multi-platinum status. Lee is a four-time ARIA award winning artist and in 2015 he was presented with the Australian Record Industry Award for Outstanding Achievement. In 2017 Lee was named alongside the all-time greats of Australian Country Music with his inclusion into the Australian Country Music Roll Of Renown for his lasting and significant contribution to country music, and in 2018 he was was inducted into into the CMC Hall of Fame. Lee also received the CMC/ARIA Award for Highest Selling Australian Album of 2018 for his 25th Anniversary Album.

Lee is a long-time passionate supporter of rural and regional Australia. His Pass The Hat Around Australia Tours, Spirit of the Bush Tour and Farmhand concert have raised millions of dollars for drought, flood and bushfire relief, hospitals, schools, ambulance and volunteer organisations nation-wide. In 2004 Lee was the recipient of an Order of Australia Medal and was named the 2008 Australian of the Year for his service outback and regional communities. 

In May 2019, Lee released his highly anticipated studio album, Backroad Nation. The new album was produced by Grammy nominated producer and songwriter, Lindsay Rimes (Kane Brown, Kylie Minogue. LoCash). The album also features collaborations with The Wolfe Brothers and Robby X. 

Lee co-wrote all 12 tracks on the album and said, “Backroad Nation is about feeling that good vibration when you get off the beaten track and the country wraps itself around you. My absolute passion in life is to sing about us, our country, our way of life and that’s what the new album is all about. Much of the inspiration for the songs has come from the people I've met and the places I've travelled to from Alice Springs to the Deni Ute Muster, from the mighty Pilbara region in WA to backroads QLD and everywhere in between”.

Lee has achieved a staggering 39 #1 chart hit songs over his career and has been awarded 38 Golden Guitars. He has been named Hit Maker of the Decade twice, in 2001 and 2011. This accolade is in recognition of Lee having more chart hits in Australia than any other country music artist in the world.

Raechel Whitchurch had a few non-negotiables when she came back to playing music: be true and be brave.

She’d grown up in country music: immersed in it from family band, The Lees, and feverish songwriting ahead of her 2016 debut EP, to her “day job” as a booking agent for a host of big names who happened to be friends and colleagues.

“Country is authentic to who I am,” she’ll tell you, as if you couldn’t tell from that lightly honeyed voice and genuine spirit.

But pleasing everyone, worrying what everyone else thought, took the fun and authenticity away. And with it went her confidence. So she stepped away. For a year, two, three …until “as time went on I started to get this little tingle in my heart: I could be doing this. I should be doing this. Why aren’t I doing this?”

The love of a good song, the joy of performing it, were coming back. And that’s where the rules she set herself came in.

“I have to be me, because I can’t live a life where I’m acting. I’ve tried, but I’m not a very good actress,” Raechel says, explaining that being honest to two particular people changed everything.

“The thing that changed things for me was when I had kids and I realised that one day I was going to have to look them in the eye and when they said ‘hey mum why didn’t you ever do music?’ I was going to have to tell them the reason why is because I got scared.”

And that just didn’t sit right with her.

“I can’t stand here and raise brave, forward-thinking, secure children but at the same time be a walking contradiction. I have to show them, I have to model to them, what it looks like to take risks and maybe fail,” says Raechel with quiet determination.

“That became a big catalyst for me to make this record: at the end of the day to tell them I tried.”

She’s more than tried; she’s put everything into Finally Clear, a debut album which captures not just her “coming home” musically and spiritually, and a renewed passion in music that straddles alt-country and old school country, but her sense that she had to be true to herself in every way. 

Even if it meant wiping away the dirt others might think makes something “real”, and letting the part of her that loves Gram Parsons (after whom she named her son) share space with the part that is a Kacey Musgraves fan.

“I really wanted it to be a very clean record. I’ve always erred on the side of a bit dirty, a bit gritty: that’s been the style of music I played. But I think I’ve done that because I thought I wasn’t good enough to be clean and crisp and tight,” Raechel confesses. 

“When I went to [multi award-winning gun producer] Matt Fell I said I really wanted this album to be softer, and a lot more authentic, because I felt that I had presented myself in a way that wasn’t always who I am.”

Whether on her parent’s property in Parkes (where she wrote Finally Clear’s title track under the stars, telling herself “give this a go. It has to be now”). Or in the hectic moments at home. Or in the studio taking Fell’s advice that she shouldn’t worry about proving herself but trust in her work and “just sing the song”. Wherever it was, Raechel was happy. And happy to show it.

“As uncool as it sounds, and it is uncool to say, I am not a broken human being. I love my family and I’m happy with where I am in my life, and I’m doing my best like we all are. And I think it should be celebrated if life is beautiful and pure and happy,” she says.

“This is just as remarkable, if not more so, than someone who is dwelling in self-hatred and self-pity. They’re just different stages of life and one is not more authentic than the other.”

And if that puts her on the outside a little bit? As her song, You Ain’t One Of Us, shows, Raechel is fine with that. Sometimes that’s where you have to be so you can say “I am who I am and I kinda like who I am”, and mean it.
